Extending your Road Bike Tour Holiday

Many of our guests combine a 10fifty holiday as part of a longer European vacation, especially those that travel to us from the US. The obvious opportunity would be to check out the Tour De France whilst you are in Europe. No introductions are needed for this fantastic cycling spectacle and its certainly one that any cyclist would be keen to see. The closest stage is often the one that starts/ends in Morzine which is about an hour and fifteen minutes away. Many of the alpine stages can be seen within about a three hour drive of Chamonix.

Chamonix Location
Chamonix and the Mont Blanc Region is in the northern part of the French Alps. It is well connected by both road and rail. The Mont Blanc Tunnel through to Italy allows rapid access east towards Milan. Lake Geneva in Switzerland is just over an hour away with Evian and Montreaux on its banks.

The best way to go about arranging all of this would be to sort out a hire car either at Geneva airport or in Chamonix. Having a car is really the only viable option to get around the area to see different stages as travelling by public transport can be very costly with respect to the available time you have. If you do hire one in France be aware that if you intend to drive on Swiss motorways you will be required to pay Swiss road tax which is approx 40 Swiss Francs.

We also strongly recommend that any additional accommodation that you need is booked before you come over. As you could imagine, all of the hotels and hostels are all booked around Tour time. The best bet as with most things is to have a look on the net and take it from there, most of the places will have someone that can speak English.

If the tour isn't your cup of tea then there are loads of other things to do and see whilst you are in the Alps. A week of riding in Chamonix whilst your significant other checks out all of the sights in the valley and then a week of touring round Italy and Switzerland could just be the clincher you need to convince your other half, that a 10fifty holiday is just what you both need!
